(b) When you've made some good progress, just quit the game and duplicate the pilot file. (a) If you die you don't have to quit and restart - just choose "Open Pilot" and pick the file you were using. (AND don't spoil that cool Starbridge with the "upgrade" to new class, as you'll loose the space). Spending money on any other Starbridge is a waste. Go back and get the other used Starbridge - it's far far far better because of the extra 60 tons (!!) of equipment space.
I think I got the Starbridge from the rich kid. Can it be that they are generating them BY HAND?

It's cool the way you can mix and match technologies from different races. If you ARE that thread try getting a Strike and buffing the weapons mounts at sigma shipyards, then get a total of 3 lasers and 2 fusion turrets in that little ship! Add in the Federation afterburner and vectored thrust for a lethal little ship. But I was showing what you can do with just non-Polaris weapons, since you have to be on the Polaris mission thread to get them (and there are 5 other mutually exclusive mission threads). CODE!!!!!!!!!!) but i've got a couple layers of steel armor, 2 of those dope Polaris lazers (the red ones), I've got my a Starbridge (DAMNIT AMBROSIA!!! EMAIL ME MY REG. Plus I only found out tonight that you can do the Polaris missions to get access to their stuff (doh!) - I imagine that stuff's even more potent. But sadly the bounty hunting jobs aren't much of a challenge anymore - the game needs more serious 'prey'. Can kill Dragons, and some pretty heavy opponents. It's pretty easy to get 'deadly' rating using this ship. View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif That tactic is great against medium and big ships, and against fighters the Storm Gun provides some protection. I've designed it as a 'mauler' - the ion cannons stun the opponent and then I move in to finish them with the Lances.

Another option if your ship gets disabled (with no one around to help) is to self-destruct (command-minus will give you a countdown, but apparently you have to hit it again to make it a real sequence). I have the bad habit of exploring the universe on my own-and I see some cool stuff, but I also get in trouble a lot. One minus is that you can't, as far as I can tell, make multiple gate jumps without revisiting the gate and map page. Gate access is pretty sweet-fairly long jumps, no fuel expenditure. It also seems to be an in to the Aurora empire as I can ship some stuff around that area (including having to take a UPC diplomat there). To gain access to the gates you'll have to be presented with the missions for the United Shipping Courier (I'm pretty sure this is the storyline that I received after coming back to Sol after carting around the demo guy). It's pretty cheap (15k IIRC), so you shouldn't have to spend all day running missions to afford it. For the guys running out of fuel: one of your first purchases for any ship, IMHO, should be a solar panel.
